Gaming the Gospels: A gift for Jesus

In this activity, students are invited to think about the nativity from the perspective of the wise men who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus.

Begin by reading the passage in Matthew’s Gospel (2:9-12) where ‘opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.’

Now, create groups of three.

Each group is tasked with preparing a proposal for what gift your class would give to the newborn Jesus.

Each group presents their gift proposal to the class with three reasons why that item should be chosen. Listing the eight proposals on the board, a blind vote takes place deciding what the class will offer Jesus.

Afterwards, discuss with the students what was most convincing about the proposal they chose.
