The Angelus Contexualised – Kids outside

The Angelus image comes from our shearing shed (pictured above). It speaks to me of the faith we share in our family. We live out the Good News by remembering the old and looking forward with hope to the new.

A legacy of Resistance: Honouring the fight for Indigenous rights

In the land down under, where the gum trees sway
A call for justice, echoes louder every day
It’s not just a whisper, it’s thunderous implies
so well done to all who fight, for the cry’s
From Stolen Generations to present day fights
We must confront the wrongs and set things right

For in the eyes of God, we're all sisters and brothers
And to ignore injustice is to forsake others.
Black lives matter, its more than a phrase
It’s a call for equality in so many ways,
A horrid story to recall but it was freedom they foresaw
Maybe one day there will be with the help of more, and more
So let us look at all who march with purpose,
and love in their hearts
Let us acknowledge and share
help and do something about this issue if you dare
For in our faith, we are called to love and serve
To stand with the poor, and never swerve
So let us walk together, hand in hand
For the cause of justice, on OUR great land

I wanted to make this piece as I don’t believe that Aboriginal people are treated as fairly in our country as much as they should be. I took the Australian Catholics Young Voices Awards as an opportunity to make this piece and say thank you, celebrate, and congratulate people for standing up for Aboriginal Australians. Especially schools being supportive in creative ways. These are people that have seen an issue and acted on it. This has created a ripple affect around Australia and the world motivating schools and people to Do good, be good, spread good news. I made a poem as I thought it would be a fun and creative way to express my feelings. This is what these people are doing, and it should be recognised more than it is. Just as Jesus teaches us to love all, ‘Love one another as I have loved you’. – John 13:34
And sadly I don’t believe that Aboriginal Australians are loved as much as they should be. So, I just wanted to say thank you, thank you to everyone who is fighting for Indigenous rights.

The life of the special market: more than just a place

The Farmer’s Market is located at the Adelaide Showground is by far one of the friendliest communities. The market sells fresh produce and promotes healthy eating for all ages, providing a sustainable place. It first started in 2006 and has evolved ever since. It is not just a place where produce is sold. It is now an unbelievable place where friends have been built, connections have been made, and where you can enjoy the scenery of drinking a fresh cup of coffee with the kindest community. . .
Don’t take my word for it, let’s talk to someone who has been a customer to the markets for years.
‘The market community is a vibrant group of people. Everyone from someone that’s come all the way from the south-east to someone from the Adelaide Hills. On top of that, the ethnicity mix is incredible. The people that we get to meet from farmers and producers to people who might like bake on the weekends and seem to know what they’re doing. They are talented people and it’s just a great lot of people to know. So we have 100 store holders. But they’re just nice people and some of them I could consider friends, which is special.’ (excerpt)
